This slow cooker has many intelligent features not available in comparable units, such as a digital display and countdown timer. The timer itself is unique, as you can the unit to cook for as long as 20 hours. Once the timer runs out, your Crock-Pot will automatically switch itself to warm, stopping the cooking process but keeping your meal warm and ready to serve.

Crock-Pot also released a manual version of the SCCPV610-S cooker, the 600-S. If you’re looking for a more affordable slow cooker that doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, this may be a better fit for you.

The SCCPVL610-S sets itself apart from the lesser model thanks to the digital timer, which allows you far greater flexibility in the meals you cook. Thanks to the timer, you can tell the device not only how long to cook, but also when to start cooking. But make sure you remember to choose the right setting for the meal you’re making, which is either high or low.

This Crock-Pot slow cooker is incredibly portable. It comes with a clampdown gasket that can be fully sealed; therefore, you won’t spill any food if you move it. It even has two strong carrying handles, so you can literally pick up the entire unit and just set it on the table after cooking. In fact, it’s not uncommon to use the SCCPVL610-S slow cooker for outdoor gatherings, whether you’re serving meatballs or chile con queso. Because of its portability, you will also have fewer dishes to manage since you don’t have to transfer the contents into serving trays; which in turn conserves energy and water usage. Furthermore, since the dish itself is made of stoneware, it is really good at containing heat — particularly when compared to aluminum or stainless steel dishes.

The stoneware dish is also very easy to clean, as it and the lid are completely dishwasher safe. If you don’t have a dishwasher, cleaning it by hand is a breeze by using warm soapy water. The dish is also microwave and oven safe, so you can use it for other methods of cooking as well. You cannot, however, use it on a hob, as this will damage it, so if your recipe does call for something to be fried first, you will have to use a different pan.

This Crock-Pot slow cooker has been designed to be user friendly. All you have to do is set the timer and cooking time, decide whether you want it on low or high temperature, and that is it. You cannot further adjust the temperature, and there is also no display telling you what the current temperature is. However, cooking in a slow cooker is quite basic, and cook time is far more important than temperature.

While analyzing the reviews left on Amazon, I noticed a lot of people commenting that older models, or models in a similar price category as this Crock-Pot cooker, often get too hot. What I Liked About the Crock-Pot SCCPVL610-S:

• It is very easy to use with only a few cooking settings to choose from.
• It is highly portable thanks to the carry handles.
• It is safe to use and carry because the lid clamps down and the gasket is fully sealable.
• You can choose to add a jacket to the Crock-Pot for further ease of portability and keeping dishes warm.

What I Didn’t Like About the Crock-Pot SCCPVL610-S:

• It doesn’t have a clock, nor does it enable you to program it other than setting the timer.
• All that the timer really does is count down the number of minutes; it is not linked to the actual time. So, if you want the device to start cooking at a specific time, you will have to manually calculate the number of minutes to wait.
• While the Crock-Pot automatically switches to keep warm at the end of the set cooking process, it does not automatically switch itself on. You always have to do that manually.

Overall, the Crock-Pot SCCPVL610-S is a fantastic slow cooker and a great appliance for anyone looking for an easy way to prepare healthy dishes. It does everything you would expect from a slow cooker, and as an added benefit, this Crock-Pot model is designed to be highly portable. This extra features truly sets it apart, as you can cook dishes and bring the entire pot with you wherever you go. It isn’t an overly flexible machine and doesn’t come with a clock, so you have to be there to get it going. But because it has few additional features, it is really easy to use. You simply pop your ingredients in, set it to the cooking mode you prefer and turn it on. Before you know it, you’ll be enjoying a delicious, tasty meal at the end of the day.
